This summer, I participated in the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. For this program, I participated in courses such as anatomy and physiology, physics, biomedical sciences, clinical interventions, and more. Some of my experiences here include getting exposure to a Gross Anatomy Lab to learn more about the human body utilizing cadavers, shadowing a neurosurgeon, and learning about emergency medicine! I was able to confirm my passions about healthcare as well as get some valuable insight from medical students, deans, and advisors about the transition to medical school. I will also have a lasting connection with UNMC through the LEAP (Long-term Enhanced Advising and Preparation) to Medical School Program where I will meet with an experienced advisor every other month until getting into medical school. Overall, this experience provided me great friends, invaluable academic exposure, practical experiences, and insights that helped solidify and prepare me for my interests in medicine.
