Since I was a little girl, I have always loved learning about the brain. Even though there has been a lot of research done since I first fell in love with the world of neurons, there is still so much left to discover! I want to be a part of this journey so that I can help us achieve a healthier and happier population. Mental health resources and support are becoming more and more necessary as our country faces the current mental health crisis.
Majoring in neuroscience and minoring in psychology has been a great experience. I have been able to learn more about mental health conditions in my psychology courses while learning more about the biological basis and possible biological interventions for these conditions in neuroscience. I have also been working towards my child policy certificate, which is actually very closely related to both neuroscience and psychology. I have always wanted to focus on children’s health, so taking all of these courses together has made me feel more confident that I can provide care from a well-rounded perspective in the future.
During my junior year, I will be working as a research assistant for the Sanford School of Public Policy on a project about how housing displacement affects the wellbeing of children. I am also working on an independent research project as well as a community service project both focusing on social-emotional development in school-age children!
I do all of this with hopes of making a difference in some of our most vulnerable communities. I plan on going into the field of child psychology and doing non-profit work for the rest of my days after my education is complete! I’m excited for the rest of my journey!
“I love being a part of a diverse but like-minded community whose goal is to support each other as we all work towards a healthier future for our world! ”
