I am a rising sophomore who is passionate about medicine and eliminating health disparities. As a first generation student, I am excited to become a role model for other young Latina women who battle with disparities and cultural barriers. My parents are my biggest supporters and motivation and seeing their journey as immigrants I learned so much about work ethic and family values. This first hand experience allowed me to help refugees at World Relief Durham over the summer. The refugee resettlement agency taught me about the intricate processes involved in bringing in refugees and family reunification but also the adverse affects of leaving your country of origin and loved ones.
