Hello! My name is Madison. I am majoring in Biology with a concentration in Anatomy, Physiology & Biomechanics, and minors in Chemistry and African & African-American Studies. I am a Research Assistant studying Archival Research on Gerontology and African Americans, A communications intern for the Duke Cancer Institute, and a Bass connections member of Healthy Women Post Roe v. Wade! In my free time, I enjoy doing self-care activities like exercising and engaging with my community at events in Durham. I seek a career as a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, but I enjoy learning about all aspects of science and health. Through my various research positions, I have had the opportunity to explore different aspects of medicine, and one thing I learned was there is always more to be discovered when working in the health field. I took on the role of a researcher, archivist, investigator, and spokesperson and learned from each position that our health is ever-changing with our environment and the social impacts of our society. Learning this has taught me that there are various ways to learn about health, and it’s okay to explore while figuring out the impact you want to make in this field. No matter the role I take in this field, I am grateful to be able to learn about health and medicine through a new perspective. In addition, I am a proud advocate for community service, and I enjoy helping others whenever possible. As I transcend into junior year, I am excited to step into my positions of leadership and meet new people along the way.
