Hello, I am Habiba and I am currently studying global health and public policy in hopes of combatting the lack of access to healthcare caused by distance and cost. I love being involved with communities I plan to serve or am already a part of. For example, I volunteered for Little Essentials, a non-profit based in NYC that assists new families in need with childcare necessities. I also interned with Wellfare; a non-profit aimed at solving the global health issue of food insecurity in the most vulnerable neighborhoods of NYC.
I am a very curious individual. My curiosity has led me to explore a variety of career paths, including neuroscience, epidemiology, law, and even fashion. Through my curiosity, I have been involved in autism research from hypothesis to presentation, and it has easily been one of my most challenging yet most rewarding experiences. I’ve also taken part in two-month summer coursework studying viruses like HIV and Ebola to better understand the lifecycle of a virus and how it infects the host.
My overall career goal is to serve the communities that have raised me. I seek to give back to my Brooklyn and West African roots by addressing the healthcare disparities these communities face. As a member of two underserved communities in two different parts of the world, I bring a diverse perspective to the situation. Coming from both communities, I aspire to use my academic endeavors for their benefit. My goal is to assist these individuals on a local, if not global, level.
When I’m not in class or binge-watching my favorite shows, I love to draw. I’ve always had a love for art and exploring my creativity so to pass the time I draw, paint, and sketch.
