GSF Major Bio and Chem minor

Tyler Ann Johnson strives to be altruistic, a quality she learned through her relationship with her four younger sisters. Tyler is a first generation college student, and is working toward medical school. She has had the opportunity to shadow and volunteer with doctors in the community. She enjoyed volunteering in Durham VA hospital because of her soft spot for Veterans. While in college she has found a passion in Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies. She hopes to use the knowledge gained through her GSF major to help her be a better OB/GYN. She was CO-President of a women living learning group, and participated in the Black Women’s Union. She was a member of Bass connection, and a scholar for the Minority Health International Research Training program. Through these programs she was able to do interdisciplinary research, and was able to explore where public health could meet medicine. She has been able to attend multiple conferences, both national and international, to present her research. Her interest is in serving Black women, and focusing on tackling health disparities. She got a glimpse of how large this work is, while working with women in Uganda. Tyler is looking forward to her next steps.
