Born and raised in a rural, underserved Alabama town, I have witnessed firsthand how even one’s own perception of good health and well-being is severely inhibited due to scarce amount resources, education and support available. As a Spanish major with minors in psychology and chemistry, I am determined to employ my diverse set of skills toward being a respectable, constructive member in my community and communities similar to mine. When I am not in class or studying, I enjoy volunteering as a research assistant in the Access for Behavioral Health for All (ABHA) Lab at Duke's Center for Addiction Science and Technology, assisting lab specialists in improving the effectiveness of mobile health apps for behavioral addictions and mental health disorders. Through this experience, I am constantly learning about and working towards bridging the gap between affordable, accessible healthcare and under-resourced communities. My clinical experience includes weeks of shadowing underneath the head pediatrician of Prestige Pediatrics, where I became familiar with doctor-patient interactions, scribing, working as part of a multifaceted team, and healthcare in underserved rural communities. I enjoy working as a center assistant at Kumon Math and Reading center, and I also enjoy teaching one-on-one Spanish ESL classes as part of Duke GANO. In my free time, I like to read books, play Sims 4, sketch, and play tennis. I am extremely passionate about serving my community and the importance of fostering meaningful relationships with its members. A firm believer in the principle that serving is never one-sided, I enjoy the exchange of education and resources that results from a mutual connection, and desire to support. I look forward to becoming a physician whose main priority is to serve in my community, ready to put forth everything learned from others, school, work, and hobbies into preserving the well-being, vitality and beauty of my community.
