I hope to pursue a career in psychiatry or family medicine in order to increase equity and resource accessibility in these fields. My ultimate goal is to open several mental health facilities in low-income, minority-heavy areas because the stigma regarding mental disease is particularly strong within these populations and they typically do not have access to such facilities.

In my spare time, I enjoy watching/studying films and volunteering. I am part of the Black Women's Union at Duke, Best Buddies ( an organization that pairs Duke students with adults from Durham with mental diseases), and I tutor at Crest Street youth tutoring program in Durham. I also work with the center for race relations on campus. This past summer and throughout my time at Duke I have worked with individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities. These experiences have shown me what a world with a neurotypical/neuro-atypical  social hierarchy that is accepted within the society of those that are deemed neurotypical. I seek to increase access and availability of resources to accommodate all individuals. This is a passion I want to carry with me during my journey to becoming a Psychiatrist.
