My Name is Tatayana Richardson, I hail from Atlanta, GA. I am a double Major in Religion and African American Studies with a Minor in Cultural Anthropology. I am heavily interested in the Hematology field, with a focus on Sickle Cell (both adult and Pediatric). To foster these interests I have spent the past three years working on Sickle Research in various formats and settings. I currently shadow in and work as a lab tech in the Arepally Lab, focusing on Sickle Cell proteins and antibodies, and the ways in which they may upregulate Sickle Cell pain crisis. Along with working in the lab, I am a Building Opportunities & Overtures in Science & Technology Mentor, where I work to help foster the interests in the STEM field for middle schoolers. Outside of my prehealth interests, I am a Duke Peer Advisor, I serve as the Spiritual Formation Coordinator for the Duke Wesley Fellowship, I am also a Duke Chapel Scholar, and a Mellon Mays Under Graduate Research Fellow.

“I really appreciate the Cardea fellows program because it is a group of students who thrive, strive, and struggle to become better together as a family, and I know that my pre-medical experience would not be the same without the other fellows. ”
