Tanya is passionate about health disparities and wants to become a general surgeon to work on public health reform in underserved communities, both in the U.S. and abroad, especially Haiti. She loves to travel and learn about other cultures, which led her to choose International Comparative Studies as her major, with a concentration in Latin America and the Caribbean. She is currently fluent in English and Haitian Creole, but she wants to become fluent in Spanish, as well as take Italian, French, and Arabic while at Duke. Around campus, she is president of the Haitian Student Alliance and a member of Reformed University Fellowship. She is also a writer for the Ronald McDonald House of Durham Family Story Project, a program that focuses on narrative medicine and the power of listening to someone's story. As a member of the selective living group Arts Theme House, her hobbies include painting, drawing, reading, listening to music, and relaxing in the Duke gardens.
