I am an aspiring small animal veterinarian. Ever since I was little, I have been fascinated by how vets can decipher what is wrong with an animal even though they cannot communicate with them verbally. On-campus, I am involved in the Duke Puppy Kindergarten, Women’s club soccer, Duke Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU), and the Inferno. I have been a research assistant at the Duke Koeberl Animal Research Lab for the past four years, helping to search for a cure for Glycogen deficiencies in dogs and cats. After Duke, I plan on attending a Veterinary Graduate program, where I will study small animal medicine and focus on canine cancer, specifically soft-tissue sarcomas.
“As a Cardea Fellow, I have been given a community of diverse students to work, study, and experience college with that I otherwise wouldn't have had. Through their networks and mentors, I am able to really focus on what I aspire to be and make those initial steps towards achieving my goals. ”
