Nursing

Community is a "feeling of fellowship with others; a sharing of common attitudes, interests, and goals." My interest in Nursing began when my mother had two high-risk pregnancies back to back; due to her high blood sugar. During this time, I became close with my mother's OBGYN whom she regularly visited once or twice every two weeks. The exposure ignited my interest in nursing. Three years later I joined a highly selective medical internship program that allowed me to work in birth stimulations with mannequins, where I was able to "birth a baby". This experience sparked my interest in the women's health specifically. I love being able to help others and witness the reward of making someone feel better, or trying to figure out a solution to their medical issues. I am looking forward to gaining leadership, research, and life skills that will help me beyond the classroom at Duke, and I know through Cardea my goal of learning efficient problem solving techniques that will help me in my work field will be fulfilled. My high school volunteer work and leadership experiences taught me compassion and the importance of inclusivity and diversity, which is reflected in Cardea’s values.
