Katrina is a resilient optimist from Miami, FL majoring in Evolutionary Anthropology with a minor in Chemistry. Katrina has a true passion for dentistry, a field where she can combine her appreciation of both science and art. She is the Secretary for Duke’s Pre-Dental Society, and has a goal to make a significant contribution to society by improving the lives of others and the community at large through oral health. She is currently conducting research in an Evolutionary Anthropology lab using dental topography metrics, and serves on the Art and Design Committee for Mi Gente, Duke’s Latinx student association. Her hobbies include spending time with her family and friends, do-it-yourself arts and crafts, calligraphy, and volunteer work. Training in karate for over 10 years, she has earned a black-belt and has sharpened her leadership skills, discipline, and focus in the process. Being the karate teacher of diverse groups of eager and animated kids has helped her contribute to the development of these attributes in young children. Katrina is also a pianist and enjoys playing modern pop-rock songs on the keyboard.
