My name is Katie LeCroy. I am a Gender, Sexuality and Feminist Studies major and a Chemistry and Biology double minor. I love my major because I think it is so relevant today. I get to learn about the multiplicity of ways that groups of people are excluded and discriminated against everyday and use Feminist Theory as a way to combat these problems. It's helped me look at the world in a whole new way and will be so useful for me as a doctor who will be treating patients who are different than myself.
On campus, other than Cardea Fellows, I am a Campus Tour Guide. I get the opportunity to give prospective Duke students a glimpse into my life and tell them why I love Duke so much. I also volunteer with a club called FEMMES, which is a club that is focused on the gender disparity in the STEM fields. Every week I get to go to a local Durham Elementary school and do fun science, math, and engineering projects and mentor girls in 3rd-5th grade. I am also in a sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, of which I am the Vice President and a very active member. Outside of clubs on Campus, I love to workout and try out new Durham restaurants with friends. I also love to travel, and had the opportunity to study abroad at the University College of London my Junior year. I am currently working on my Senior Honors Thesis and have been volunteering in the local hospital in my hometown this summer.
