Academic Interests: Sociology major, Chemistry minor

Hi! My name is Kacia Anderson. I am a first-generation college student and attend Duke as a Questbridge Scholar and a David M. Rubenstein Scholar. Growing up, I was constantly surrounded by the healthcare world. Many of my family members are involved in healthcare in various capacities and as a child I spent many years in and out of hospitals. From these experiences, I was able to interact with healthcare and with time my passion for the field grew immensely. I continually find myself fascinated by what medicine can do for others based on my personal experience and the experiences of others. As I continued to learn more about the world, I also began to realize with as great of tool medicine can be for an individual’s health, there are numerous factors that impact the type of healthcare people have access to and receive. This is why I decided to pursue medicine with as a Sociology major so that I can develop the skills necessary for a deeper understanding of the people I aspire to serve and their stories. I have a deep interest in health policy, and I hope through my major and minor combination I will be able to bridge my passion for medicine and health policy. On campus, I am involved with Duke University Union (DUU) which is the largest programming body on campus. I currently am on their executive board as their Executive Vice President.
