Starting sophomore year has definitely been different because Bashir has found a profound appreciation for scheduling. Simple things such as going to bed at the same time every night, working on homework for certain classes at the same time every week and reviewing constantly has allowed him to remain stress free and given him the benefit of doing the things that he enjoys. He recently joined the club soccer team and that has brought him a lot of joy. Even though he has had more "free time", he has also been more involved on campus as well. He recently became the treasurer of Circle K- a volunteer organization that integrates a variety of different volunteering programs. He volunteers weekly at the Durham nursing and rehab center for one of his service learning courses. Furthermore, he is on a mission with some peers to get UNICEF on Dukes campus. Lastly, he also works 8-10 hours at the Durham Child Developmental and Behavioral Clinic (DCDBC). Working at DCDBC has given him the benefit of working with pediatricians and child specialists. It has also taught Bashir to appreciate patience and attention to detail. Although the only thing his job entails is to enter checklists into a computer, he is always cognizant of the fact that his errors could affect a child's diagnosis. Working at DCDBC has given Bashir a glimpse, although a small one, about the type of pressure involved with being a health professional. In due time, he hopes to expand his horizon by incorporating research on campus into his schedule.
