Colleen

Hello!

I grew up in upstate New York and although I love everything Fall-related (apples, changing leaves, brisk morning air, etc.), the winters seem like they are ten months long!

I attended college at the University of Miami, starting with a Music Engineering major and Electrical Engineering minor and eventually pivoting to the social sciences with a Psychology major and Music and Education minors. I briefly returned to cold weather to earn a Master’s degree in Counseling at Syracuse University.

I have worked professionally in student affairs (the part of the college experience outside the classroom) since 1988 at various institutions such as American University, The Catholic University of America, and Johns Hopkins University.

I started at Duke in 1998 working with campus housing.  My first job at Duke involved pairing first-year students with their roommates – by hand!  In 2004, I was hired to support the Alice M. Baldwin Scholars program, whose mission is to empower women leaders.

I am honored to be joining the Cardea Fellows program and hope to help these students continue to thrive.

Outside of work, I like to walk our dog Cooper, practice Pilates, bake, and read.

Fun fact: I am part of a team that broke a Guinness Book of World Records record in 2013.
